The Rodica Family Organic Winery is located in the beautiful and green country
of Slovenia. In the Northern part of the peninsula of Istria covering an area of 15
hectares, the farm grows 60,000 vines of mostly autochthonous varieties, such as
Refosco, Malvasia, and Yellow Muscat, as well as others including Merlot,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Pinot Gris. Grape production is carried out
following the rules of organic farming, based on management in harmony with
nature. With the greatest respect for nature and our Mediterranean culture, with
love and passion, the Rodica family produce wines that inspire us.

We believe that quality has roots in the vineyard. The land on which we have planted our vines has been abandoned and overgrown for the past 50 years. It has never witnessed the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Planted on chosen positions, the vines record modest growth. On these airy slopes, sunlight is abundant throughout the day, which gives us perfect conditions for organic farming. By showing great respect for nature, we grow perfectly ripe and healthy grapes, from which we produce wines full of life.

The story begins deep in the mean harsh and droughty Istrian soil into which the
people place their roots just as their vines do. At the bottom of every »Istrian’s«
soul, there is a hidden winegrower, whose heart sings every time they see the
beautifully arranged and cultivated vineyards where sweet and healthy grapes
are smiling upon them from the vines and even more, when they taste the
intoxicating flavor of this noble drink. This winegrower waits steadfastly for the
opportunity to transfer the respect towards the soil and the trust in its power,
which has maintained countless generations, including today’s generations.

“I grew up on a farm, which remained in a modest, traditional way up until my
father’s generation”, says Marinko Rodica. “Of course, wine was the most noble
produce and at the same time, the most important source of income. With my
wife Suzana and our sons Matic and Aleš, we continue this tradition today. A few
years ago, we started expanding the vineyards and building a cellar. We cultivate
more than 50,000 vines on 15 hectares. The wines of autochthon and traditional
sorts of Refosco and Malvasia present the main part of our produce. We
supplement our offer with Muscat, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and
Syrah.”

Such an approach to grape growing and wine nurturing means finding harmony
with nature, considering its ways, and discovering old knowledge, which we
nowadays call organic farming. In 2006 Rodica joined the process of organic
control and certification and in 2009 successfully got the Organic certification.
